Schedule: Variable PM Shift, Overtime as Needed, Essential Personnel

Clinical Status: Non-Clinical

 

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Donation Coordinator provides accurate, efficient, and timely donor referral and screening services for its stakeholders such as, tissue recovery agencies, referring hospitals, client Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs), partner eye banks, Medical Examiner offices, and funeral homes.  Provides customer service to callers and determines preliminary donor eligibility for potential clinical and/or research donors. Triages calls by urgency and routes to appropriate coordinator and provides excellent customer service. provides grief support to potential donor families while also advocating for donation via phone calls. Initiates contact with the legal next of kin according to the UAGA hierarchy and leads a supportive discussion and interview process regarding donation.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Screening and Logistics: Accurately and effectively evaluates information for preliminary donor eligibility, including relevant medical records, clinical course, hemodilution assessment, medical history, and behavioral risk assessment information for initial donation suitability. Arranges transportation of approved donor tissues from contracted procurement agencies and communicates arrangements according to established protocols. Works directly with multiple courier services to ensure the timely pick-up and arrival of all shipments through accurate logistics and reporting. Collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure a positive customer service experience.
  • Donor Referrals: Accurately identifies and processes all potential organ, tissue, and eye referrals and tissue screenings to maximize donation opportunities from referring agencies.
  • Triage and Escalations: Assesses incoming calls and electronic communication from internal/external partners; prioritize based on urgency and either addresses as able or follows proper transfer protocol to daily task owner. Collaborates with key internal and external partners to ensure a positive customer service experience
  • Donation and Grief Support: Works empathetically, compassionately, and professionally with families in crisis and advocates for donation (eye/tissue/ research/education). Approaches for donation opportunities telephonically and effectively completes required paperwork without error (e.g. Authorization/ Disclosure/DRAI/ adjunct forms, etc.). Completes a thorough and conscientious Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) with the most appropriate historian. Follows all communication protocols to ensure effective interactions with Donor Center teammates and stakeholders, including but not limited to Funeral Homes, Medical Examiners, donor families, and Hospital Staff. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years' work experience as an EMT, hospital corpsman, ER, RRT, ICU tech or equivalent health care experience, or dispatch for emergency services

 

Preferred Experience/Skills/Certifications:

  • Associate degree – Allied Health, Life Sciences, or Related (to include EMT, LPN, Hospital, Paramedic, RNs, Respiratory Therapist, or Corpsman)
  • CTBS Certification
  • 3 years’ work experience in Tissue Banking, Medical Device, Organ Procurement or related industry

 

 Key Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate and build relationships with all professionals at various levels within the organization. Communicate with key stakeholders including donor families, key internal and external partners, and executive leadership.
  • Critical Thinking/Decision Making: Ability to review and interpret complex procedures, practices, and policies real-time while applying to each unique potential donation opportunity. Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Possesses a strong skill set in emotional intelligence including emotional awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and effective relationship building.
  • Data Entry and Typing: Ability to listen and efficiently type critical data points into multiple electronic platforms (e.g. Donor Management System, Donate Life Registry websites, SAP, external partner order entry platforms, etc.). Proficient typing skills of 40 words a minute.
  • Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, Microsoft Suite, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Technology and Virtual Competency: Ability to easily navigate basic troubleshooting and operations of all provided technology including but not limited to laptops, cell phones, online data management platforms, multi-factor authentication systems, and software associated with day-to-day functions.
  • Attention to Detail: Able to perform tasks thoroughly and with care; checks work to ensure high degree of accuracy/completeness and early/on-time delivery
  • Teamwork: Demonstrates effective collaboration with internal/external teams through persuasive communication, proactive approach to problem-solving, adept at contributing to workflows seamlessly to achieve collective success.
  • Time Management: Able to prioritize multiple, competing priorities and manage time/workload. Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple time sensitive projects, multi-task, identify project interdependencies and potential risks/pitfalls.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $20.36/hourly to $42.43/hourly

 

Final compensation will be based on factors such as geographic location, qualifications, and prior relevant experience.  The pay range for this position is $20.36 hourly (entry level qualifications to $ 27.15 hourly (experienced in this role). Actual compensation may be higher based on the successful candidate’s knowledge and relevant experience.

 

*For candidates who reside in Washington State, the pay range for this position is $20.36 hourly – $42.43 hourly.
